Spotify playlist: 50 overlooked classics

With the dance music landscape ever changing, music is bound to slip through the cracks, buried in the abyss of label catalogues begging to be rediscovered. That said, Mixmag has launched a new playlist, updated weekly, that will shine a light on forgotten treasures.

The criteria for the 50 Overlooked Classics playlist is simple, the track must be ten years old or more and can come from any style or genre. Yes, certain tracks from 2007 can now be considered classic, as dance music has evolved significantly since then.

Every Thursday we’ll provide an update to the playlist in order to showcase the vast scope of dance music’s history. From the birth of house music to minimal innovations, funk-fueled ballads and experimental excursions, the Overlooked Classics playlist is the go-to guide for digging into the past, proving this music is truly timeless.

The first edition of the playlist showcases a variety of house classics, including tracks by Kerri Chandler, Move D, Mood II Swing, Glenn Underground and more. To add to the collection, a few minimal gems are also featured, like Richie Hawtin’s remix of Slam’s ‘Positive Education’ and Matt Thibideau’s ‘Frank’, among others. Just like a DJ set, the playlist takes the listener on a journey. Strap in and blast off.
