Private trades for the Swedish streaming giant Spotify have grown to a staggering $16 billion.

According to the Financial Post, Spotify’s valuation could reach $50 Billion in just a couple of years. With over 140 million active users, shares have increased by over $3 billion dollars since June of this year which has encouraged the company to pursue a direct-listing on the New York Stock Exchange.

As the undisputed market leader in music streaming services, this new equity valuation may give the company room to expand into new businesses and geographies it has yet to explore. This valuation also gives Spotify the upper-hand when it comes to negotiating licensing deals with various music labels.
