Spectrasoul
'The Mistress' (Shogun Audio)
8/10
Nobody likes waiting, but when it's for the follow-up to Spectrasoul's remarkable debut album, 'Delay No More', released back in 2012, the wait's fully justified. And, boy, have they made it worthwhile. Their first album proved they're not just about d'n'b rollers, and this one's yet another stunning piece of musical diversity from the pair.
Yes, there are rolling crooners suitable for a gully rave ('Always', 'The Mistress'), but it's cuts like 'I'm Real Good', 'Hot Head Rock' (with vocals from Pedestrian) and 'More To Give' that see them lock into beautifully crafted song mode. If Friction's the emperor of Shogun, then these two must be heirs to the throne given this majestic record.
