Anonymous user overloads Soulseek with thousands of Homer Simpson "covers"

An anonymous Soulseek user has uploaded thousands of tracks to the platform which are labelled as files of original songs, but are actually edited versions featuring AI-generated Homer Simpson vocals.

According to an investigation from Vice, there are currently around 2,000 "covers" on the peer-to-peer file sharing service, with the original track title, artist credit, and other data unchanged.

A favourite of DJs and users wanting to discover lesser-known gems, Soulseek users could be unknowingly downloading music featuring the cartoon patriarch while scouring the platform for a plethora of genres.

Vice highlights that there has even been a 24-hour radio station, D'OH FM, set up exclusively to feature Homer Simpson covers — with internet users able to request a track of their choice.

AI-generated Homer vocals are nothing new; a series of clips, utilising Voicify AI, went viral on TikTok in 2023 featuring Homer J. belting out songs such as Underworld's 'Born Slippy', Muse's 'Starlight' and Modjo's 'Lady
