Sofi Tukker in The Lab NYC

The Lab NYC is Mixmag and Smirnoff Sound Collective's weekly afterwork party where we stream the best American and international DJs from the intimate space connected to our Brooklyn office. Mixmag was extremely excited to welcome Sofi Tukker for a special DJ set in The Lab NYC on Thursday.

Made up of Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern, Sofi Tukker is more of a movement than an artist group. Explained in their own words, their style hosts a community and welcoming wave of joy, utilizing their unique contrasting dynamic as one of their most enticing traits. Halpern was an aspiring pro basketball player whose track was cut short when a bout of illness left him on bed rest for nine months, leading him to learn how to produce electronic music. Meanwhile, Hawley-Weld grew up as a world traveler picking up a handful of incredibly eclectic talents before crossing paths with Tucker in a bossa nova warehouse.

Quickly rising to fame after their smash single 'Drinkee', Sofi Tukker most recently released their debut EP 'Soft Animals'. The New York-based duo has shared their next single, 'Moon Tattoo' and has just wrapped up a massive global tour supporting M83.
