German live electronic act Moderat took to NYC’s Terminal 5 on April 19 to showcase their immersive audiovisual show to a packed crowd of eager fans.

Moderat have played flawless gigs around the world in the past few years. With the release of their latest album ‘III’ and another live album ‘Live’ in 2016, their presence on the global circuit has never been stronger. Now with a stop in NYC they were put to the test, which allowed them to reveal bits of their personality not commonly shared in a seamless performance.

To say there were a few mishaps would be an understatement, but in a performance marred by technical difficulties the trio consisting of both members of Modeselektor and Apparat kept their cool in brilliant fashion.

When technical glitches happen it’s not necessarily the fault of the performing artist, rather it’s the struggles of the audio engineering crew behind the scenes. That said, the artists are left on stage to face the anxious crowd, which can be daunting. Luckily for everyone at Terminal 5 on April 19, Moderat are personable characters that were able to joke with the patrons while their team worked backstage to get the sound back on track. Multiple stops in a show definitely throws off a vibe, and it was miraculous to watch the trio pull themselves back together after a break. Which wasn’t surprising, these guys are pros.

Aside from the tech issues, the music itself was earth-shattering, vigorous, edgy and warm electronic music from a variety of rhythms and genres. Hard hitting techno would pick up the energy and then tracks like ‘Bad Kingdom’ and ‘Rusty Nails’ would reveal the gritty, yet melodic side to their musical persona. Apparat, also known as Sascha Ring, possesses beautifully haunting vocal chops that complement the intricate musical arrangements from Modeselektor’s Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary. This trio is an exquisite collaboration and their chemistry shines on stage.

Next up for Moderat they're off to Coachella before returning to Europe for a string of gigs in the UK, France, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands and more through the summer.
