Singapore nightlife allowed to reopen after two years

COVID restrictions will ease on April 19

Singapore nightlife allowed to reopen after two years

Authorities in Singapore have announced that the nightlife sector can reopen this month after two years of being shuttered.

Channel NewsAsia reported that Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry and Ministry of Home Affairs announced that the nightlife sector will be allowed to fully reopen on April 19.

To enter nightclubs, people must provide a negative antigen rapid test which is valid for 24-hours and entry will be limited to groups of 10 fully vaccinated individuals.

The one-metre rule is required when not wearing a mask and capacity limits of 75% for events with 1,000 or fewer attendees.

Last month saw live music return to venues with Minister of Finance Lawrence Wong explaining: “These are activities with a higher risk of transmission, and it is also generally more difficult to comply with prevailing [safe management measures] one to five [regulations] in these settings.”

In January the country allowed six music venues to stage pilot concerts at full capacity and no social distancing.
