Sampha wins the 2017 Mercury Prize
The South London singer wins for his debut album 'Process'
Sampha Sisay has won the 2017 Mercury Prize for his debut album 'Process'. The South London singer performed his emotional '(No One Knows Me) Like the Piano' song before winning the award and a £25,000 prize, which was presented to him by Idris Elba.
Sampha beat out fellow nominees including Mixmag cover star J Hus, Stormzy, The xx, Blossoms and Ed Sheeran, who were all nominated for their album releases this year.
Last year, grime star Skepta took home the award for 'Konichiwa', beating out the late David Bowie. He gave a memorable and touching acceptance speech, bringing his mum on stage with him.
