Rudeboyz
Feisty slice of Gqom straight from Durban, South Africa
Rudeboyz are the South African trio producing Gqom, the steel-cladded, drum-pounding music straight from the Durban townships.
If you're after an idea of what music in the city sounds like, Massive Q, Andile-T and Menchess are the guys to give you a lesson. The music they make - smacking, stripped back, tribalist beats - sums up the movement and it's no surprise 'Gqom' translates to 'bang' or 'hit'.
With the music in full swing in the KwaZulu-Natal city, other artists including Illumination Boiz and AudioBoyz, Rudeboyz's self-titled EP is soon to reach ears outside of SA with a release on London label Goon Club Allstars.
No punches have been pulled on 'Get Down', a full-on bass rocket from the outset, smashing and clashing all the way through to make a real piece of musical aggression.
The 'Rudeboyz' EP is out on May 18
