Robert Hood returns with minimal techno EP 'Alpha Key'

The four-tracker marks the Detroit pioneer's first solo release under his given name since 2022

Robert Hood returns with minimal techno EP 'Alpha Key'

Robert Hood has revealed details of his latest EP, 'Alpha Keys' — which will be released both digitally and on vinyl via Hood's imprint M-Plant on April 12.

The four-track EP marks the Detroit pioneer's first solo release under the Robert Hood moniker since 2022 single 'Hectic / Amazon Dust'.

The new record will consist of "characteristically Hood Music," according to a statement around the release.

'Alpha Keys' follows Robert Hood's collaborative release in 2023 with Femi Kuti, 'Variations' — a 30-minute EP spanning 7 tracks, is a live recording between the collaborators during a performance in Paris, in November 2019.

According to The Quietus, the two shared the stage in celebration of the life of James Brown which aired on the French TV series, La Compagnie des Indes & Sourdoreille.

Robert Hood, who first began making music under the nickname Robert Noise, has released work under several aliases including, Monobox, Inner Sanctum and the Vision.

He continues to release gospel-inspired electronic music under the name Floorplan, alongside his daughter Lyric Hood.

Robert Hood revealed that it was his daughter who first had the idea of incorporating techno into communion, prompting the formation of the future father-daughter duo, Floorplan.

Floorplan are set to release a new album on Classic, the details for which have yet to be announced.
