Tresor and Kraftwerk co-founder Regina Baer has passed away.
Regina Baer passed away on July 21 after “fighting an extended, courageous battle against a serious illness”, according to a statement written by Dimitiri Hegemann.
Baer was a Berlin nightlife pioneer, bringing life to many of the city’s most appreciated and iconic venues, all of which embody her hospitable and community-focused spirit.
She co-founded the iconic venues Tresor and Kraftwerk and went on to oversee and manage several other institutions in the city. From 1991 to 2005, she was manager of Globus and Tresor and carried on her work at the large venue Kraftwerk.
She also founded the Tresor Foundation, where she was also the chairperson of trustees, an organisation that helped achieve the protected status of these legendary clubs and helps preserve them for future generations of clubbers.
Even beyond the nightlife sphere, she had a huge influence on Berlin’s wider cultural, entertainment and hospitality sectors. Restaurants Schwarzenraben and Weltrestaurant Markthalle were also two businesses that Baer helped grow and expand - both of which have become iconic spaces in Berlin.
The tribute by Hegemann pointed out many of her incredible accomplishments and accredited her as being one of the most influential people within Berlin’s nightlife sphere.
It said, in part: “The history of Tresor, and indeed of Berlin’s entire nightlife, would be different without her; without her energy, drive, vision, creativity, discipline, and ability to carry others along with her and motivate them.
“Her True Spirit was as compelling as it was contagious, as witnessed by countless artists, Tresor-goers, co-workers and friends. She was a great loving mother who, despite sometimes crazy hours and times working on our shared projects, was always there for her children and never forgot those who were most important to her.
“This death tears a painful hole in our lives.”
