Premiere: Walter Ego's 'Goku's Legend' is grime with an anime twist
He returns to Sheffield label Bad Taste Records
Back with a belter, Walter Ego returns next month with a bouncy, boisterous three-tracker titled ‘Seven Star Ball’.
Fusing grime with Goku, his latest offering is packed with imaginative instrumentals, inspired by cult classic anime series Dragon Ball Z. The EP is peppered with references and nods to the “raw energy” of the show, with ‘Goku’s Legend’ coming in last as the thundering finale. The tune's laced with a sense of delectable dread - think eerie synths, spare percussion and a huge, hypnotic build up.
Past collaborations with the likes of Trim and Slick Don showcased the Sheffield artist's affinity for experimental productions, and his return to hometown label Bad Taste Records is a welcome return as Ego demonstrates his production prowess, without an MC in sight.
Walter Ego’s ‘Seven Star Ball’ is out August 4 on Bad Taste. Tune into ‘Goku’s Legend’ below and pre-order the EP here.
