Premiere: Mickey Pearce’s ‘Rant Over’ is a mic drop in music form
Assertive banger
Mickey Pearce is a key producer involved in the Swamp 81 family that has been one of the strongest forces in UK club music this decade. While the label is predominantly known for curating murky, sound system bangers, Pearce has been one of the more experimental associated figures, working across multiple styles and not afraid to throw a disco record into his sets.
Earlier this year he put out his debut album ‘Michael’ through the imprint, which saw him shift towards a broader and more expansive approach, combining his club roots with airy melodies and forays into beatless territory.
The artist, real name Ricahrd Attley, takes his moniker from the character in beloved British sitcom Only Fools and Horses, and the title of his next EP on Ten Thousand Yen ‘Top 5 Goat Memes’ underlines his playful side.
The alias also harks to the distinctly UK flavour underpinning his output over the years. While he's never been pigeonholed, creating floor-driven cuts designed to pump energy into a rave has been his foremost function.
See the crashing percussive hits and mind-bending melody of ‘Rant Over’ from his new release for a prime example. It’s a bold track that lives up to the assertive nature of its title. There’ll be no quarrels when this one hits in the rave, just heads down dancing. Check out the premiere below.
'Top 5 Goat Memes' is out on December 2 through Ten Thousand Yen, pre-order it now via Bandcamp
