Detroit's Populux closes for a week following a racist Twitter hack

Confusion over the Detroit venue's reaction to US violence has been solved

The world has been heavily affected by the recent tragedies in North America concerning police brutality and the developing violence.

Many dance music artists and public figures have come forth to voice their opinions and feelings on the matter. As expected, messages from the likes of Stormzy, Skrillex and The Martinez Brothers have questioned the current state and have addressed anger and sadness over lives lost.

Detroit's Populux, which has consistently been involved in Detroit Techno Week and Movement Festival, had a radically different reaction to the matter which caused outrage and artist show cancellations.

Much of the content was highly offensive to the black community thanks to the use of the hashtag #fuckblacklivesmatter. Populux also retweeted ex-congressman Joe Walsh's tweets openly threatening President Obama and spewing aggressively racist, ignorant statements.

After the incident, Populux pulled its Facebook page and closed its doors for the week following cancellations from scheduled performers Bixel Boys and Vic Mensa.

It has now been clarified that the content in question was a Twitter hack, which Populux has filed an FBI complaint for.

The venue has come forth to announce its complete support of the Black Lives Matter movement and to confirm that the posts made last week are not in line with its personal beliefs. No word yet on when the venue will be fully up and running again.
