​Police shut down hundreds-strong illegal rave at disused mushroom factory

Police made multiple arrests over the weekend at a hundreds-strong illegal rave close to Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk News reports.

The unlicensed rave took place at a disused mushroom factory in Stanton, a village between the towns of Bury St Edmunds and Diss on Saturday, October 28, at around 20:50PM (BST).

Suffolk Constabulary were called to the scene following reports of a “large gathering” of people in the area, where they found “up to 300 vehicles” surrounding the event on Saturday evening.

A lorry was seized after investigation by local police, as well as sound equipment used at the rave. The illegal event was thought to be a halloween party, with footage shared online showing ravers dressed up in costumes.

Nine arrests were made, all of whom remain in custody, while one 33-year-old man was charged today with theft. He’ll appear in front of Suffolk Magistrates' Court on December 11, per the East Anglian Daily Times.

Three of the arrests made were on suspicion of causing a public nuisance, two on suspicion of theft, and a further three on suspicion of excess drinking while driving. The final arrest was made on suspicion of drug-driving.

Speaking on unlicensed event, Suffolk Police Detective superintendent Angus Moir said: “We are talking with the landowner, and I want to thank members of the public for their patience as we worked to bring this event to a safe closure.”

“I can assure people that the matter doesn’t finish here, and an investigation continues to investigate what has taken place."

In 2018, a rave taking place at an abandoned mushroom factory in Market Harborough was allowed to continue into the early hours of the morning by police.
