Police make four arrests at New Year’s Eve rave In Keynsham

A small number of people sustained minor injuries at the event

A 1,000-person party that took place in Keynsham on New Year's Eve has made the news.

Last year the police allowed raves in London and Northamptonshire to continue without intervention, but they cracked down hard on this occasion.

Officers arrived at the empty warehouse unit in the small town near Bristol just after midnight following noise complaints from the public and shut down the rave in a "safe and controlled" way, making four arrests and seizing the sound equipment present (see picture above, via Twitter).

Superintendent Cath Johnstone said: "Unlicensed music events pose a serious risk to public safety."

"There were a large number of people in attendance and we needed to have the right number of resources in place to make sure they could leave without putting themselves or others at risk.

"We're aware there has been significant disruption to local residents and I'd like to assure people we were using all available powers to close it down safely.

"A small number of people received minor injuries due to the nature of the unstructured event and we worked with our colleagues in the ambulance service to ensure they received treatment."
