Producers are sampling Amol Rajan's "jungle" response on University Challenge

A clip from BBC 2 quiz show University Challenge has gone viral and is now being used as a sample to make jungle tracks.

The sample comes from last week’s episode on BBC 2 when some University of Aberdeen students were asked a dance music-related question by TV host Amol Rajan.

The question asked: “What name is given to the genre of dance music that developed in the UK in the early 1990s out of the rave scene and reggae sound system culture associated with acts such as A Guy Called Gerald and Goldie?”

Answering the question, the Aberdeen students replied, “Drum ‘n’ bass” before Rajan corrected them with the answer: “I can’t accept drum ‘n’ bass. We need jungle, I’m afraid.”

Rajan’s blunt yet precise response has gone viral on social media with people calling it the “perfect” sample with one Twitter user, Nathan Filer posting: “Please, please will someone sample”.

Many producers have taken up the challenge by creating a jungle track with the “We need jungle, I’m afraid”.

Rajan has since posted: “Thanks so much to all the heads who made all these memes go viral yesterday; and to Nathan Filer for the inspiration. My favourite: General Levy, obviously.”

He adds: “Dream scenario is a mix with The Ragga Twins; or Ghetto Dub by Probe and Sylo; or Temperance by Marcus Intalex”.
