Pedram (Craig Richards Magic Carpet Remix)
Sinister, atmospheric techno from one of the UK's finest
London’s fabric nightclub is among the world’s finest dance institutions, revered globally for its mighty sound system and untouchable programming.
Craig Richards is a key figure behind fabric’s enduring success. He’s been helming Saturday night sessions at the nightspot for 16 years, crafting sets that are the stuff of legend, never afraid to pull out weird and challenging records such as this or throw in a spoken word Shakespeare sample, but equally as comfortable drawing for functional bangers to blow the roof off. The result is truly unique sets that never fail to inspire. Anyone who’s been in Room 1 at midday on a Sunday afternoon will know.
He’s also played a significant role in building the club’s reputation for forward-thinking and exciting bookings, instilling this vision through his role as musical director.
That's not to say his legacy is contained to the London club, however. Bookings for Richards flood in from all corners of the planet, and beyond the booth he’s produced a number of his own killer records and released even more through the various labels he runs, including The Nothing Special which has delivered goods from the likes of Trevino and Calibre.
Craig’s next project sees him turn in three different remixes of ‘Lex’ from Sheffield-based newcomer Pedram’s recent Born Electric EP. They will feature on a special package release of Pedram’s next outing ‘Cloned’.
The ‘Realignment 1’ and ‘Realignment 2’ versions are both strong, but our favourite is ‘Lex (Craig Richards Magic Carpet Remix)’. It opens with the type of skipping, metallic sprung percussion that always goes down a storm as morning becomes afternoon in fabric, before the introduction of a moody bassline sets the track down a more sinister road with eerie chords, piercing background screeches and crunching percussive textures. We’ve got the premiere below.
''Cloned' is out on vinyl through Born Electric on June 10, and available digitally on June 24. Pre-order it here
