One person has been killed and at least 40 others have been injured after the main stage of Medusa Festival in Spain collapsed in the early hours of Saturday.

Of those injured, according to the BBC, three suffered serious trauma injuries with the individual killed a man in his 20s.

Footage from one festivalgoer showed the aftermath of the chaos which occurred due to extremely high winds, at times exceeding 51mph:

The electronic music festival in Cullera, south of Valencia, was later suspended.

Since the tragedy, the festival has issued multiple statements on Facebook, sharing how they are “devastated” by “a moment no one should ever know”.

“Our thoughts continually occupy each and every one of those affected, directly and indirectly, by the unfortunate, unexpected and unavoidable accident that has occurred tonight due to the extreme and unpredictable inclement weather during the celebration of Medusa Festival,” the directors said.

“It is a day of mourning. And respect for those affected,” they continued later in the statement, which can be read below:

Names on Medusa’s line-up included Carl Cox, Amelie Lens, Marco Carola and Steve Aoki, with David Guetta set to play the festival today. When the incident occurred, DJ Miguel Serna was on the main stage playing his 3:AM-4:AM set.

On his Instagram story shortly after, he described it as a “tense few minutes”, having “not experienced anything like it before” and that he was “still in shock”.

Serna continued by sharing his support to all those impacted by the horror which occurred towards the end of his set.
