Nyege Nyege unveils new releases from Slikback and DUKE
The releases were unveiled alongside a string of label mainstay tour dates
Nyege Nyege Tapes and its sub-label Hakuna Kulala have lined-up two new releases from rising stars Slikback (pictured) and DUKE.
As one of our 25 Artists to Watch in 2019, Slikback’s BPM-spanning, head-spinning club material well and truly won us over last year. Now, he's following up his 2018 debut EP ‘Lasakaneku’ with a new six-tracker titled 'Tomo'.
On his latest Slikback expands on his dynamic sound, “borrowing from footwork, trap, grime and a variety of contemporary underground African club styles," according to a press release. The EP will land via Hakuna Kulala much like his previous offering.
The EP will be followed by DUKE’s debut album ‘Uingizaji Hewa’, which lands on the main Nyege Nyege Tapes platform. Describing his productions as “punkish...with a complete DIY aggressive style,” the label add that DUKE’s unique sample style sees him, “borrowing from everything from popular Tanzanian advertising jingles to sounds ambient sounds from around his studio.”
The release announcements were unveiled alongside a string of label mainstay tour dates. A whole host of Nyege affiliates such as DUKE, Slikback, Kampire and more have been confirmed for international performances this spring.
Hakuna Kulala will release ‘Tomo’ on February 1, with DUKE’s ‘Uingizaji Hewa’ landing on March 8 over on Nyege Nyege Tapes.
