Notting Hill Carnival co-founder Sam King has passed away
He's also been described as a political "pioneer"
Sam King MBE, the man part-responsible for starting London's Notting Hill Carnival, has died aged 90-years-old.
The Jamaican immigrant arrived in the UK in 1948 and was one of the organisers for a Caribbean street party which officially became known as Notting Hill Carnival in 1964.
He was also elected as the first black mayor of Southwark in 1983, with many referring to him as a political "pioneer".
Britain's first black newspaper, the West Indian Gazette, also launched with help from King, whom passed away surrounded by family, according to his granddaughter.
