Nite Dykez and Sistermatic host closing party in Brixton for queer exhibition ‘We/Us’
The exhibition celebrates the “diverse experiences” of female masculinity
London-based queer collectives Nite Dykez and Sistermatic are set to host a closing party in Brixton Village this Saturday, June 10, for the We/Us exhibition, which celebrated the “diverse experiences” of female masculinity.
The exhibition, which came to a close last week, celebrated queerness in Britain and the “presence of butches and studs from working-class backgrounds within the British landscape”.
DJ collectives Sistermatic and Nite Dykez are due to perform in the avenues of Brixton Village’s Market Row from 7:PM until 11:30PM featuring guest DJs and We/Us exhibition participant, Khi James.

The collaborative set will run through everything from Detroit house to rocksteady, acknowledging soundsystem culture and its offspring genres.
Those performing include Sistermatic’s Yvonne, as well as Eddie Lockhart, GIN, and Mica Coca, one of Nite Dykez’ co-founders. It marks the second iteration of their Brixton Village collaboration following the first last year.
“It all starts with Eddie and Yvonne who have truly paved the way for Lesbians and Dykes to exist,” says GIN. “They are the real inspiration behind this collaboration.”
“To create an intentional, intergenerational, and inspirational space where everyone can come together, compare musical knowledge, reminding ourselves that whilst we have generational differences we have really united through the love we have for music.”

The We/Us Exhibition concluded last week, June 3, after a three-month run at Space Station Sixty-Five in Kennington. It looked closely at the photography of Roman Manfredi capturing “the essence and strength of LGBTQ+ people”.
Brixton Village’s General Manager, Diana Nabagereka, explained: “Brixton Village has a resolute commitment to individuality and true originality, which is why we’re always happy to create a stage and a place to be for all communities.”
