Nile Rodgers has announced he will release a new Chic album in 2017, titled ‘It’s About Time’, consisting of material that was originally set to be released two years prior.

In a blog post, the Chic frontman expressed that the timing to release a new album did not feel right in 2016, a period which he refers to as “A Year of So Many Deaths”. A number of legendary musicians whom Rodgers admired, respected and worked with died, including David Bowie, Prince, Glenn Fry and Paul Kantner.

Regarding the death of Prince, Rodgers described how it was difficult to cope with, but allowed him to reflect on the forthcoming album: "When Prince suddenly died, it was like I'd been struck by lighting twice. It made me "see" why I named the next CHIC album "It's About Time." Time is so important, and what we do with it is everything."

Now 2017 will be the ideal year to finally unveil new music, as it’s the 40th anniversary of the legendary Studio 54 club, and with that, the 40th anniversary of Chic. As Rodgers states, “we will pay homage to the club that put us on the international map”.

Before the album is released, Chic and Nile Rodgers plan to embark on a tour. Look for more information on that to follow.

No release date for ‘It’s About Time’ has been announced.
