As head of seminal label Ostgut Ton, Nick Höppner is one of the most influential figures in the world of techno.

'Folk' is proof that he's not only someone who can curate and sign great music, but also produce great music himself. Across nine tracks Nick plays with the 4x4 foundation, moving from the trundling emotion in 'Grind Show' to bright, glistening entrancing atmospherics on 'Rising Overheads'.

Throughout his journey there's a constant sense of emotion, whether it be 'Airway Management' and its glorious fizzing pads, which radiate euphoria, or 'No Stealing''s warped vocals and their feeling of optimism.

It veers into the house sphere on occasion, but we felt there was enough of an over-arching techno theme to give this album a place on the page.

Very enjoyable – and quite a journey.
