Nick Clegg has been offered a job as a DJ

The former deputy prime minister has been tapped by a local bar that his replacement MP co-founded

Nick Clegg, who was recently made redundant in the 2017 UK General Election after losing his MP seat to Labour newcomer Jared O’Mara, has been offered the chance to become a DJ.

Local bar West Street Live tapped the former deputy prime minister and ex-Liberal Democrat leader to soundtrack a night at the spot called "Cleggers Plays Pop".

O’Mara, Clegg’s replacement MP for the Sheffield Hallam constituency, co-founded the bar and used to DJ there twice a week. So a job swap could be on the table if Clegg accepts the offer.

Speaking BBC’s Newsbeat, West Street Live owner Tam Ali said: "We want him to put on a student night. I heard he's popular with them so I think it would make a great job for him to come into.

"Part of Jared's skill set is that he has an encyclopaedic knowledge of pop music. Mainly old school pop - and he has an affinity for boy bands.

"I'd hope Nick Clegg would play pop too. I would imagine he's kept abreast of the latest music and I'm sure he partied away in his student days."

Ali added: "It's all good humoured. We're just extending our West Street Live family and he can come on board and be part of it if he wants."

Students, likely feeling betrayed by Clegg’s 2010 decision to form a coalition government with the Conservative party which saw a tripling of tuition fees rather than the LD’s proposed scrapping, have also commented on the matter.

"He might need help learning how to DJ and someone to teach him. You'd have to charge him tuition fees for this. It's only fair really,” said Neil Hargreave.
