New York City's Nightlife Mayor announces $350,000 grant scheme
It marks the very first funding initiative by the Office of Nightlife, supporting non-profit organisations
Jeffrey Garcia, New York City’s nightlife mayor, has announced the launch of the new FY26 nightlife grant to assist non-profit organisations in the city’s nightlife industry.
Announced last Thursday (September 18) in an interview on The Lot Radio, where he spoke to founder François Vaxelaire, Garcia revealed the Office of Nightlife will distribute $350,000 in funding through the Neighborhood 360° Grant Program, with individual grants of up to $50,000.

The scheme aims to boost local promotion and commercial visibility, support retail retention and industry capacity, foster safe, inclusive, and sustainable nightlife districts, and preserve nightlife culture.
Successful applicants can use these resources to expand programming and test new models that strengthen New York’s nightlife economy. Garcia said in the interview that it is designed explicitly to encourage “safety, equity, harm reduction, and to elevate our world-class nightlife industry.”
Since its inception in 2017, the Office of Nightlife has focused on fostering dialogue between venues and residents, with a mission to ease tensions and address challenges, and build stronger communities through nightlife.
In 2017, council member Rafael Espinal called the opening of the office an opportunity for New York to "stop bleeding out cultural spaces.”

Garcia took over the role as Nightlife Mayor from Ariel Palitz in 2023 and has since steered the department into new territory, moving it under the Department of Small Business Services to position nightlife more centrally as an economic sector.
With FY26, its first grant program, the office shifts from mediating and advising to directly funding non-profits that keep the city’s nightlife alive.
Applications for the grant are open from now until Wednesday, October 15, at 11:59PM EST. You can apply directly here.
