T.NO debuts on re:lax with two-tracker ‘Yards’
Surinamese-Dutch artist T.NO has revealed a two-track EP is coming out on re:ni and Laksa’s re:lax imprint on September 18.
The high-energy club tracks incorporate influence from styles such as gqom, kuduro, UK funky and more, getting club play from the likes of Mia Koden and Florentino.
Speaking about the release, the Amsterdam-based artist said: “In both tracks I was looking for a fine balance between human rhythms and an electronic feeling. I feel like re:lax is the perfect home for that sound.
In ‘Bender’ I subtly deconstructed traditional Surinamese drums which is the drive for the whole track, I combined this with energetic Brazilian vocals and a UK bass sound. In ‘Yards’ I deconstructed an American Football marching / drum line band, combined this with a dark continuous synth, deep log drums and Brazilian vocals.”

Kevin Saunderson, DJ Minx, and Dantiez collaborate on Motor City Anthem, ‘Detroit’
Three generations of Detroit dance music excellence have joined forces on for a new anthemic tribute to the Motor City, ‘Detroit’ by e-Dancer ft DJ Minx, out now via Kevin Saunderson’s KMS Records.
It features productio from father-son duo e-Dancer with a spoken word contribution from DJ Minx, shouting out the city’s Black pioneers and legacy of musical influence and inclusivity.
“Listen to the words and feel what they mean. This track is like an assignment,” says DJ Minx. “Everything I say on it, you can look up and find the history. Detroit is family. We’re close-knit, we protect our city. Black people started this music. We started jazz, we started Motown, we started techno, and the love for this city, for this music, never stops. I love my city.”
“It all started here,” says Kevin Saunderson. “People talk about Europe, and sure, that’s part of the story, but techno was named, born, and bred in Detroit. Without this city, without its people, it wouldn’t exist or sound like this. And now, the city has its anthem.”
“Detroit’s musical history is deep,” adds Dantiez. “It’s on us to carry that forward and show love to those who paved the way. I wanted to pay my respects to the people I’ve looked up to, who’ve helped shape my career. Turning that into a track that can also educate the next generation, that’s special.”
The EP includes a ‘Homage Mix’, a ‘Dark Dub’ mix, and a ‘Vocal Mix’.

Crystal Sting explore a ‘Bubblegum Aquarium’ on POW Recordings debut
Crystal Sting have released a seven-track record ‘Bubblegum Aquarium’ via POW Recordings.
The duo have been tipped by Four Tet, with POW boss Jeff Weiss discovering them via the electronic music legend’s playlist and feeling compelled to expand his rap-focused label’s catalogue to work with the Toronto-based artists, real names Kurtis Perrie and Bjorn Kriel.
Across its seven tracks, resonant soundscapes chime with ethereal atmospheres, or flip into sprightly 8-bit-esque territory, and fade into ambient fuzz, forming a captivating release that hypnotises and galvanizes in equal measures.
“Envision the underwater levels of Super Mario 64 as directed by David Lynch. Or artificial schools of neon dollar store fish swimming through the ruins of Atlantis. Or Phillip Glass for the microplastic generation,” describe the release notes attached to the project.

Overmono drop sought-after High Contrast ‘If We Ever’
After going viral from airplay in their Glastonbury headline performance on the West Holts stage, Overmono have officially released their edit of High Contrast’s ‘If We Ever’ via XL Recordings.
The brother duo Tom and Ed Russell used to buy records from High Contrast in Cardiff in their formative years discovering dance music, with the track marking a full circle moment.
“High Contrast used to work in this record shop in Cardiff called Catapult Records. We lived on the other side of the city, but Tom would go and buy records from him there all the time. I’m pretty sure it was the first record shop I went to after I bought Tom a voucher for his birthday one year,” recalls Ed, AKA Tessela. “‘Tough Guys Can’t Dance’ was one of those records that was just everywhere, we were all battering it, and ‘If We Ever’ was the anthem. Ahead of summer this year, we started working on our own version of ‘If We Ever’ just for fun, but the reaction was so wild, we ended up playing it in every set.”

Having recently signed to Stockholm's YEAR0001 imprint, NGHTCRWLR is set to release her second album 'OZ' on October 24.
Having already teased the project with single 'Infrared' last month, NGHTCRWLR has shared second single, 'Madhouse' from 'OZ' earlier this month — which she describes as “about opting out of destructive tendencies."
"It’s the moment when something that once controlled you loses its grip, suddenly feeling laughable and absurd," she continues. "These themes also weave through my forthcoming album OZ, which I’ve been working on for the past few years. I’d describe it as a twisted, club-infused fable colored with a sense of triumph and self-mastery.”
