Plans for a new five-story nightclub called Mekka are currently being proposed by Glenn Raymond, who aims to take over the former space occupied by the Manhattan hotspot Pacha NYC.

If it comes to fruition, Mekka will be a 36,000-square-foot venue focusing on underground dance music featuring five floors. The venue includes an art gallery, a "museum of nightlife" and a "dance music hall of fame," Raymond told RA. No permit has been issued and no floor plans have been submitted, but the goal is for the club to open in 2018.

The new proposal comes after a previous plan for a club called FREQ NYC was submitted by Space Ibiza New York's former co-owner Antonio Piacquadio. Although FREQ NYC’s plans were approved in June 2017, no building or construction ensued.

The space at 618 W. 46th Street has not been occupied by a nightclub since Pacha NYC closed it’s doors in January 2016. Now as the city is focusing on supporting the nightlife industry by establishing an Office of Nightlife and a Nightlife Task Force, there is hope that a new nightclub of Mekka's size will soon open in Manhattan.
