Nervo shout out female sound engineers on new song
A call to action against an industry's gender gap
Nervo have decided to highlight the gender gap in the field of sound engineering as well as the social discouragement that young girls face when entering the industry in a new song.
The track is titled 'People Grinnin' and is part of the Made By Me campaign, a collaboration between a number of universities in the duo's home country of Australia. As sound engineers themselves, the pair takes the matter at hand personally and show different types of engineering roles in their accompanying video.
Although this project is pointed toward their native country, Nervo hope to inspire and drive support on the issue around the globe.
Currently, there are deafening statistics surrounding the issue. In the US, 66 per cent of fourth grade school girls reported having a deep interest in science and math, yet only 18 per cent of all college Engineering majors are female. In all of Australia, only 3.7 per cent of Engineering degrees are represented by women.
Nervo's work with Made By Me aims to change the way the younger generation views engineering, through music, education and awareness.
