Nene H announces debut album 'Ali'

Nene H has announced the forthcoming release of her debut album ‘Ali’.

It will be released via New York-based label Incienso on July 16.

‘Ali’ explores the mental process behind grieving the death of a loved one, and sees Nene H combining her background as a classically trained pianist and knowledge of music theory to create entrancing electronic compositions.

The album came about as a tribute to Nene H’s late father, and explores the intersectionality of her upbringing in a Turkish family and her current residence in Berlin. It engages with her identity and background to represent her Middle Eastern heritage and Muslim upbringing with pride in Berlin’s dance music scene.

Nene H says of the album, “representing my heritage and my personal loss in such a way in such format would be something that I would be scared of doing a couple of years ago, but I have also learned to own it during the past year, especially in these times of social movement against racism and discrimination, which is bringing to minorities so much power to be who they are and not try to blend in all the time.”
