Michael Mayer works with Roman Flügel, Agoria and more on new album ‘&’
His third full-length album is a passionate and personal project
Michael Mayer has announced an exciting new album with a concept focusing on collaboration. Simply titled ‘&’, each track on the album features Mayer combining talents with one of his peers, including the likes of Roman Flügel, Gui Boratto, Kölsch, Agoria, Joe Goddard of Hot Chip and more.
As one of the leading German tastemakers in dance music and co-owner of the influential Kompakt label, Mayer has left a lasting mark on the industry during his storied career. His latest project, out via !K7 on October 28, will reveal more of a personal story, as Mayer describes how he’s chosen to work solely with his close friends.
“These people mean a lot to me,” says Mayer, “and by that the music we produced together is heart-driven and emotionally powered.”
The first taste of the album comes in the form of ‘Und Da Stehen Fremde Menschen’, a collaboration with Barnt that features a vocal sample from a long lost East German band Stern Meissen.
Mayer says: “I bought the record because I thought the cover was interesting. Then I heard this one line that fit perfectly to this idea of mine. Barnt was the only candidate to make this idea come to life. The trick was to bridge something that sounds sincere and deep with a delicate balance of craziness”.
