A memorial event for late Nitzer Ebb frontman Douglas McCarthy is set to take place in East London next month.

Billed as a “loft party”, the event will go ahead at Dalston’s Lanzarote Works on September 6, hosted by London party promoters Cosey Club and recently shuttered pub and live music venue The Gun.

DJs performing on the night include Nathan Gregory Wilkins, Nick Stephens, Richard D. Clouston, Scott Fraser and Jody Moss, while Luke Turner will perform as an MC throughout the night.

Sharing the news of the event on Instagram on Monday (August 18), Nathan Gregory Wilkins explained: “When I purchased ‘Balearic Beats (The Album Vol 1)’ as a teenager in 1988, two tracks always massively stood out for me, one by The Residents, and one by Nitzer Ebb.”

“Flash forward a decade or so and I was somehow lucky enough to count Nitzer Ebb's Douglas McCarthy as a friend. He was one of my favourite people to ever spend an evening with.”

He continued: “He had the most diabolic sense of humour. Definitely one of the good guys. We very sadly lost him earlier this year. So we decided to have a little gathering to celebrate the life of this wonderful man."

The event – which celebrates McCarthy’s life and career in music – will run from 5:PM until 12:30AM, inviting all those who knew and loved McCarthy to join.

Douglas McCarthy passed away in June at the age of 58. As the frontman of pioneering industrial EBM group Nitzer Ebb, McCarthy and his fellow bandmates have often been credited to advancing the sounds of Chicago house and Balearic.
