Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five's Melle Mel charged with domestic violence
The rapper was released on bond and is alleged to have punched a woman
Melle Mel, an MC in the pioneering hip hop group Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, has been arrested and charged with felony domestic violence.
The artist - whose real name is Melvin Glover - was arrested on June 26 and has since been charged and released on a $50,000 (£39,000) bond.
On social media, the alleged victim - Jori Jordon - shared her accusations against Glover where she claims that he hit her left eye in a hotel room in Los Angeles.
“I’m just sitting there, chillin,’” she said in the clip according to Rolling Stone. “Next thing you know, this man just goes ‘whack’ with four rings on his finger and hits me in my eye.”
She also added that her eye had been previously “injured” a month prior to the incident after she was hit by a car door, which required surgery.
Since her statement, Glover has spoken with Rolling Stone in response, explaining that he has known Jordon for over 20 years and that she contacts him when he visits Los Angeles.
According to Glover, Jordon attended an afterparty with him where she asked to meet him at his hotel room, which he agreed to.
Glover says that when he asked Jordon to leave she refused, so he attempted to escort her out of the building but she held her eye and asked him to take her to the hospital.
The artist declined to take her to the hospital and called the police to remove her from his hotel.
However, once the police arrived, Glover says that Jordon accused him of assaulting her to the officers. Glover was then arrested and taken to Los Angeles County Jail.
“It’s very simple,” he says to the publication. “She said I punched her in the eye. She also said she had eye surgery a month ago. Had I punched her in the eye, especially with rings on, she would have had a cut eye.
"It would have been way worse. Something did happen to her eye, but I did not punch her. With me tussling with her and trying to get her away from me to get her out of the room, something happened.”
The artist, best known for tracks ‘The Message’ and ‘White Lines (Don’t Do It)’ is due back in court on July 17 to face the felony domestic violence charge.
