Maribou State announce first new album in six years, ‘Hallucinating Love’

Maribou State have announced the release of their first new album in more than six years, ‘Hallucinating Love’, due to arrive in January 2025.

The new 10-track album marks their third to date, following 2018’s ‘Kingdoms In Colour’ which saw the duo - made up of Chris Davids and Liam Ivory - take a top 25 spot in the UK albums chart.

‘Hallucinating Love’ is due to land on January 31, 2025, on Ninja Tune. The latest single from the record, ‘Otherside’ featuring long-time collaborator Holly Walker, is out now. Check it out below.

The record promises to nod to genres from IDM to jungle, UKG to trance, looking back at the “lineage of great British electronic music” and its influence on their own work to date.

Speaking on the new album, the duo's Liam explains: “We’ve always been very hidden in the project, and revelled in the ambiguity and anonymity. But as we've gotten older, we've wanted to show who we are much more.”

“Naturally it made sense to then point towards British dance music culture because it's something to be really proud of,” he adds.

‘Hallucinating Love’ also features Liam’s own vocals for the first time, and on one currently unreleased track, ‘Eko’s’, incorporates samples from Chris’ father’s old Eko guitar.

In 2023, Maribou State released the first single from ‘Hallucinating Love’, ‘Blackoak’. The track marked a comeback for the duo - their first release in more than three years.

The record features the likes of North Downs, Andreya Triana, Gaidaa, and consistent collaborator Holly Walker, who provides vocals across two tracks, ‘Otherside’ and ‘Peace Talk’.

“Six years on and thousands of studio hours later—after laughter, tears, and a lot of hair loss—we’re INCREDIBLY proud to finally announce our new album ‘Hallucinating Love’, coming out on January 31st,” the duo announced on Instagram on Wednesday (October 2).

Earlier this year, Maribou State said they were “pressing pause” on their joint project due to ongoing health issues suffered by the duo’s Chris Davids. They cancelled a handful of shows, and postponed the release of their forthcoming album.
