Berghain’s famous bouncer and experienced photographer Sven Marquardt is set to display his collaborative exhibition called Black Box in Lagos, which is accompanied by music from Marcel Dettmann (pictured).

Set to open this Friday at the Goethe-Institut in Lagos, Nigeria, Black Box serves as both a photo and music installation that unites Sven Marquardt’s images and Marcel Dettmann’s sound.

In a statement, the event organizers shared information about what to expect from Marquardt’s photography: “There are echoes of transformation and reformation in his work, as in one of mankind’s oldest symbols of the snake shedding its skin. The imagery plays with ideas of transforming creatures and takes on different appearances; in other words: there’s more than meets the eye.”

Pairing Marquardt’s photography with Dettmann’s music is an ideal scenario, as both are influential figures in the Berlin techno scene.

Marquardt has previously hosted work in Australia as well as Ibiza and also released a memoir detailing his life in the German music scene.

Black Box will be on display from October 27 through November 11. Find more information on artist talks and DJ sets here
