Manchester lockdown party house closed for three months by court order

A house in Manchester that hosted a party during lockdown with 200 people in attendance has been made subject to a three-month closure order that only allows the owner to access the property.

Greater Manchester Police and the Manchester City Council obtained the court order following a party at the house on Saturday, which led to officers being attacked with missiles while trying to break up the prohibited gathering when attending the scene just after 10pm.

A police helicopter used heat-sensitive cameras to film the party from above.

Insp Jim Adams of GMP said: "This incident was completely unacceptable and incomprehensible.

"I am pleased that the court has accepted our application to extend the 48-hour closure notice to ensure that there are no further illegal large gatherings at this property."

Nigel Murphy, deputy leader of Manchester City Council, said: "This was a particularly flagrant breach of Covid-19 restrictions, which are in place to protect everyone in our communities and must be respected.

"Public health must be our first priority and selfish breaches of the rules will not be tolerated."

Manchester is currently under stricter lockdown restrictions, despite measures being relaxed across a majority of the country, following a spike in local cases.

The 27-year-old woman who organised the party has handed a £100 fixed penalty notice fine.
