A man who went on a solo adventure through the Yorkshire Moors over the weekend said that he accidentally ended up at an illegal rave.

Leeds-born Oliver Broome was hiking on Saturday, April 2, after solo camping in Bradford, Yorkshire Live reports.

When the adventurer found his "perfect spot”, he pitched a tent and tucked into a brand new sleeping bag with a hot water bottle and said he started winding down for the night at around 10:30PM.

“The first half of the night went as planned, I'd pitched up, made my dinner on my little stove and had a couple of beers,” he said.

But after a little while, Broome said that he “thought he was going to get murdered” when restarted to hear voices outside of his tent.

“It was at this point it got strange, I could hear talking. I was in the middle of nowhere out in the Moors so to hear talking at night was disturbing,” he said.

“I could hear some lads talking and they seemed to be getting closer, obviously I'm in the middle of nowhere - I thought I was going to get murdered for sure.”

Broome said he decided to face the lads head-on, but upon jumping out of his tent to confront them, they were as shocked as he was. “They didn't know I was there,” he said.

He said that he started to piece everything together once he noticed what one of the lads was carrying: “I then saw that they were carrying a speaker and then it all began making sense”.

The group of 18-year-olds, as Broome described them, were then joined by more and more people shortly after who turned the place into “a nightclub”, setting up speakers, DJ equipment, and lights.

“It was only an illegal rave right next to my tent,” Broome said, “so I had no choice but to get stuck in and join the party, and I must say they were very accommodating, they supplied me with beers for the night.”

Broome said that around 50 ravers attended the illegal event, mostly teenagers, playing loud techno which went on until 7:AM.

"The chances of something like this happening in the middle of nowhere are unbelievable,” said Broome, who added that the illegal event was his first-ever rave.
