Man in his 20s dies following “medical incident” at Boomtown Festival

A man in his 20s has died following a “medical incident” at this year’s Boomtown Festival. His cause of death is not currently known.

The incident happened on the evening of Saturday, August 10, BBC News reports. The man was taken to the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in an ambulance from the festival site.

He was pronounced dead in the early hours of Sunday, August 11, a police spokesperson confirmed. No further details have been released as of yet.

A Hampshire and Isle of Wight police spokesperson described the death as “unexpected”. Police are currently “preparing a file for the coroner”, they added.

“Police were notified of a reported medical incident onsite at Boomtown which occurred between 8pm and 9pm on Saturday 10 August,” they said. “The man’s next of kin have been notified of this unexpected death.”

In a statement on the incident (via BBC), Boomtown confirmed the man’s death. “With sadness, we confirm a man in his 20s died on the evening of Saturday, August 10 after attending Boomtown,” they said.

“Our thoughts are with his family, friends and all those who knew him. We are supporting the police with their enquiries, and with respect for his family, no further comment will be made.”

Boomtown Festival took place from August 7 - 11 at Matterley Estate in the South Downs National Park, Hampshire. This year’s event saw around 60,000 people in attendance.
