London vinyl store Zen Records to shut after 30 years
According to his family, the store's owner, Robert Douglas, is currently battling health issues
Legendary vinyl 'treasure trove' Zen Records, which first opened on Broad Lane in Tottenham some 30 years ago, has announced its closure.
In an Instagram post shared on June 27, the record store announced that it will close its doors later this year after three decades, citing ongoing health issues of its owner, Robert Douglas.
The closure of Zen Records will be preceded by three livestreamed events to "honour this iconic space and legendary owner". The streams will be held on July 5, August 9, and September 6.

While the Tottenham store is set to shut, Robert's collection will be moving onto Discogs, where he will "continue to share gems from his incredible collection".
The statement spoke of the store's warm atmosphere: "Whether you were looking for deep reggae cuts, smooth soul, classic R&B, or the elusive groove known as rare groove, Robert had you covered with that knowing smile and a perfectly timed tune."

Robert's family also shared some detail on the history of the shop, and how it came to open: "Robert came from the vibrant soundsystem scene, playing out regularly before deciding to dedicate his life to sharing music instead of spinning it.
"With a passion and knowledge that only true connoisseurs possess, he opened Zen Records – and the rest is local music history."

The family of Robert Douglas called for support of the upcoming streamed events, and asked fans of the store to help with sales ahead of its closure: "For all the vinyl lovers out there: this is your chance.
"All stock must go – and what a collection it is. Eclectic, electric and deeply curated by someone who's lived and breathed music for most of his life. Robert might be stepping back, but his influence spins on."
