Lo5ive shares UK-club oriented track 'Set Me Free'

Lo5ive has returned with new single 'Set Me Free', available via Black Butter Records.

Designed for both funky large-scale parties and more intimate house raves, the record continues to build and affirm the Manchester-based producer and DJ's sonic dexterity through a track which incorporates cutting-edge UK club sounds and gospel house.

'Set Me Free' is influenced by a rich variety of tracks. Lo5ive specifically cites Frankie Knuckles’ remix of Sounds of Blackness’ ‘The Pressure’ and Floorplan’s ‘We Magnify His Name’ as key influences, with other classics in mind throughout the production process including Dennis Ferrer’s remix of 'Fish Go Deep' and Tracey K’s ‘The Cure & The Cause’.

“I just started with a basic version of the drums and vocal, then when I played the bass on top I knew the direction was going to be right," he explains on the creative process of the track. 'Set Me Free' was a collaborative effort in summer 2022 with producer Noire, who Lo5ive credits on the coming-together of the track:

"Noire laid down some percussion to compliment and fill out the drum groove. This really helped to give the rhythm section the extra bounce that’s on the tune. He also did the crash cymbals before the drops helping to build the dynamics.”

The piano stabs heard vividly in the track were sent over by Noire also, which Lo5ive says “added a nice departure from the original sound palette and really gave it a nice switch to help build the progression of the song”.

'Set Me Free' marks the first official release from Lo5ive this year. With that in mind, he has still been busy in 2023, sharing a breakbeat edit of SZA's 'Smoking on my Ex Pack' and a free-to-download edit of Ojerime's 'Give It Up 2 Me'.

Simultaneously, he has been planning the recent party for his collective Kultura, which took place at SOUP Manchester last month. June 16 will see a return to the venue for Lo5ive's collectives, with summertime shows currently announced at Manchester's Green Island Festival on July 29 and London's Colour Factory on August 5.
