Lakuti is the newest Panorama Bar resident

She will be kicking things off this Sunday at the Berghain venue

Lakuti is the newest Panorama Bar resident

Panorama Bar has revealed that Uzuri Recordings boss Lakuti is set to take the reins as its newest resident.

The DJ and producer announced the news on Instagram yesterday, May 18 — confirming that saying that her bookings would now be handled by Berghain's in-house agency, Ostgut Booking.

She wrote in the post about how important the announcement is not only for her decades-long profession but also for her community.

Paying homeage to her hometown of Soweto in Johannesburg, and said she hopes that "this achievement encourages kids in Soweto and every other township, kids in Brazil, Detroit and beyond, that their contribution matters and they have something to offer."

Making a sentimental tribute to her mother's support, Lakuti says: "I am grateful to my mother for encouraging me into believing in myself and that I can achieve anything and everything that I set my mind to and that I am just as worthy as everyone else."

She also adds: "I hope this also encourages Black women in their 40s and beyond that they too matter and their creativity is an asset." Going forward, she said she hopes "to see more people like myself, a Black and queer African woman in their 40s ++, being given these opportunities."

At Panorama Bar, Lakuti and Tama Sumo launched the event series Bring Down the Walls and Your Love, which featured musicians from the Black and LGBTQ+ communities.

To kick things off and celebrate her residency, she will be playing this Sunday at Panorama Bar, one of Berghain's three beloved dancefloors.
