Kaytranada scoops the Polaris Music Prize for '99.9%'
The award is the Canadian equivalent of the Mercury Prize
Kaytranada has won the 2016 Polaris Music Prize for his debut album '99.9%'.
The award is equivalent to the Mercury Prize, which grime artist Skepta won last week, and also comes along with a hefty $50,000 cash prize. Previous winners of the Polaris include Caribou, Arcade Fire and Tanya Tagaq.
A team of 196 jurors judged the album, based solely on artistic merit without any regard to genre or sales.
'99.9%' was released on XL featuring a mix of soul, disco, r'n'b and hip hop with collaborations from BadBadNotGood, AlunaGeorge, Craig David and Little Dragon.
