Kanye West indefinitely postpones Marseille show after France threatens ban

Kanye West, otherwise known as Ye, has made the “sole decision” to indefinitely postpone his forthcoming show in Marseille, France.

Ye took to X yesterday (April 15) to share the news that his June 11-scheduled concert is cancelled “until further notice” – a decision that he said was made after “much thought and consideration”.

It follows threats to ban Ye from performing in the country from France’s interior minister, Laurent Nuñez. Earlier this week, a source close to the minister told AFP that “all possibilities” were being explored to stop the show from going ahead.

Nuñez reportedly said that he was “highly determined” to block the show, and was in conversations with the mayor of Marseille about doing so.

Last week, Wireless Festival announced the cancellation of its 2026 edition after the Home Office blocked Ye, who was set to headline, from entering the country.

The Home Office confirmed to BBC News on April 7 that it had denied an Electric Travel Authorisation (ETA) application from the US musician on the grounds that "his presence would not be conducive to the public good”.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Wireless’ booking of Ye was “deeply concerning”, adding that he should “never have been invited to headline” the festival.

Ahead of his now-postponed show in France, Ye is due to perform in the Netherlands across two dates at Arnhem’s GelreDome Stadium. The Dutch asylum and migration minister, Bart van den Brink, has said that there are currently no plans to block the shows.

Ye said in a follow-up post yesterday that he takes “full responsibility for what’s mine, but I don’t want to put my fans in the middle of it”, adding: “I know it takes time to understand the sincerity of my commitment to make amends.”
