‘05 shit” is the lyric that closes ‘T-shirt Weather In The Manor’, nodding towards the nostalgia that’s a recurring theme on Kano’s fifth LP.
Looking back is on his mind, but the album falls way short of the MC’s best work of the past. His case isn’t helped by three of our least favourite tracks (‘Hail’, ‘New Banger’ and ‘This Is England’) being in the opening five, but luckily, the fiery ‘3 Wheel-ups’ with Wiley and Giggs sits in between.
You’d think a collaboration with Damon Albarn would shine, but the Phil Collins-style chorus on ‘Deep Blues’ just made us cringe.
Kano’s still one of the best in a grime rave, though, and maybe that’s why the hook-ups with Giggs, Wiley and JME are diamonds in the rough.
