Juls hosts five-day exhibition and documentary screening in South London

Juls is running a five-day exhibition and documentary screening of his debut film Travelling Man: Com Amor Brazil at The Department Store in Brixton across June 8 to 12.

The film, directed by Juls alongside Oluwatomisin Okeowo, explores the historical, spiritual and musical links between Africa and Brazil, inspired by the British-Ghanaian DJ and producer travelling to the latter country for a gig and being inspired by the deep connection Brazil shares with Ghana. In particular the Afro-Brazilian Tabom community, former enslaved peoples who returned to Africa and helped establish the Jamestown area of Accra.

Speaking about the film, Juls said: “This project is more than a film. It’s a celebration of the roots we don’t always see - and the rhythm that connects us all.”

It’s soundtracked by an original EP which weaves together transatlantic, diasporic influences, and will be released on June 20.

Juls discussed these themes in-depth in his his 2024 Mixmag cover feature.

The film is the first instalment of a planned Travelling Man series, which is currently slated for four parts.
