Juan Atkins in The Lab LDN
The original pioneer of Detroit techno steps up to the plate this Thursday from 5.30pm GMT
The Lab LDN is Mixmag and Smirnoff Sound Collective's weekly live stream, powered by Void Acoustics, where we showcase the finest DJs direct from our world famous office party. This week (and we still can't quite believe it) The Lab LDN plays host to the one and only Juan Atkins.
The original pioneer of Detroit techno, one third of the Belleville three and responsible for some of the most iconic electronic funk of all time, the influence of Juan Atkins penetrates every techno artist that has ever set foot in a club.
2015 marks 35 years of Juan Atkins pioneering the development of a whole new of style of music, which evolved from abandoned warehouses in Detroit, into one of the most innovative and popular genres in the world today. Atkins put out his first record back in 1981 before going on to establish the first ever techno label Metroplex back in 1985 and began releasing under the legendary alias of Model 500. The label also went on to release countless classic material from greats such as Eddie 'Flashin' Fowlkes, Kevin Saunderson, and Anthony 'Shake' Shakir.
This week's Lab kicks off at 5.30pm GMT on Thursday and you can tune in below or on MixmagTV.
