Joy Orbison shares anticipated new track, ‘flight fm’

'flight fm' was written and recorded last summer ahead of a performance at Lost Village festival

Joy Orbison shares anticipated new track, ‘flight fm’

Joy Orbison has released his highly anticipated new track after teasing it for months at festivals and club nights, ‘flight fm’.

The track landed today via XL Recordings marking the producer’s first release since 2023’s collaborative track ‘Freedom 2’ alongside Overmono and Kwengface.

‘flight fm’ is custom built for the club, a four-minute track drenched in low-end subs and a raucous bassline. Its release was teased yesterday via a clip posted on Instagram where he can be heard playing the track at Manchester’s Warehouse Project, captioned: “tomorrow?”.

The track was written and recorded last summer while waiting to head to Lost Village, and was then tested on the car’s speakers on the way to the festival. The producer debuted it that same evening on the festival’s Airbase Stage to a “phenomenal” response.

Since then, ‘flight fm’ has been tried and tested in the club, receiving several spins from Four Tet during his recent Warehouse Project performance alongside Fred again.. and Skrillex.

Speaking about the release on Instagram, the producer wrote: "The track name is a nod to one of the few pirate stations (alongside Flex FM & Kool, if I stretched the aerial far enough) I could pick up clearly when I was growing up… well that and my love/hate relationship with flying".

In September, Joy Orbison released a pack of five of his “most sought after” tracks from the archive, dating back more than a decade to 2009 - 2010.

archive 09-10’ landed in a surprise release as a five-track compilation landing digitally for the first time via TOSS PORTAL, the producer’s self-run label.

All five releases, ‘tentative bidding demo’, ‘smother demo’, ‘ladywell’, ‘em & aitch’ and ‘gr etiquette’ were produced between 2009 and 2010, around the same time as his breakout single ‘Hyph Mngo’.
