Jayda G explores ‘Significant Changes’ on debut album

Jayda G will release her debut album ‘Significant Changes’ through Ninja Tune on March 22.

The nine-track outing comprises Jayda G’s trademark soulful and freaky take on disco and house, with long-time friend and collaborator Alexa Dash lending vocals to two tracks.

The Canadian artist completed the album in 2018, and in the same year completed a Masters in Resource and Environmental Management specialising in environmental toxicology. The title refers to the most commonly used phrases in her thesis, which scrutinised the impact of human activity on killer whales in Vancouver’s Salish Sea, and illustrates the link between her work in science and music.

She said: I’m trying to bring my two worlds together… to bridge the communication gap, engage people in a new way.

“I don’t know if people in the electronic music world will want to talk about the environment but I think I should try! I think it’s our duty to use a platform like this in a positive way, that’s our social responsibility.”

Jayda G heads off on a European tour in February, including four dates at London’s Phonox, and stops at Glasgow’s Sub Club, Amsterdam’s De School and Berlin’s Panorama Bar.

On February 5 and 19 Jayda G is hosting ‘JMG Talks’ in London aiming to offer young scientists an opportunity to discuss their research and personal journeys, with all proceeds donated to Free To Be Kids, a charity helping disadvantaged children in London with outdoor experiences.
