Jai Paul’s ‘Leak 04-13 (Bait Ones)’ will be released on vinyl for first time

Jai Paul’s leaked album of unfinished demos, ‘Leak 04-13 (Bait Ones)’ is getting pressed onto vinyl for the very first time, via XL Recordings.

The news was announced through a 24-hour countdown on his website, with 3,000 copies to go on sale at 4:PM BST (11:AM EST) today. It marks the 10th anniversary since Paul’s demos were leaked to the public in April 2013.

They would later be officially released in June 2019 as a digital-only release as ‘Leak 04-13 (Bait Ones)’, which was accompanied by an official statement from Paul, which can be read in full here.

It read: “I wanted to use this opportunity to share a little information about what happened regarding my music in April 2013. As you may know, some of my unfinished demos were put up for sale illegally via Bandcamp.

“I understand that it might have seemed like a positive thing to a lot of people – the music they had been waiting to hear was finally out there – but for me, it was very difficult to deal with,” he continued.

“I suppose the music was special to me in a way, stuff that I began writing as a teenager in my room just for fun, eventually signing my record deal with it at 21, and hoping that I could put it towards a debut album with XL. I guess having that dream torn up in front of me hit me pretty hard.”

Alongside the digital release of ‘Leak 04-13 (Bait Ones)', he also released two new singles: ‘Do You Love Her Now’ and ‘He’, and since then made a joint EP with his brother A.K. Paul and appeared in an episode of Donald Glover's dark comedy TV series Atlanta.

The news of the vinyl issue comes just before Paul performs his first ever live show, which will take place at Coachella Festival on Sunday, April 16. In a statement to fans on the r/jaipaul subreddit, he wrote that he was “absolutely shitting it”.
