J Hus sentenced to eight months in jail for carrying a knife

Former Mixmag cover star J Hus has been sentenced to eight months in jail after admitting to carrying a knife in a public place.

The 'Common Sense' rapper was stopped by east London police back in June of this year and arrested for the suspected possession of a knife or bladed article. He appeared in Snaresbrook crown court and denied the charge of "having a lock knife, without good reason or lawful authority" on June 21 in Stratford, east London.

The grime rapper changed his plea in October, saying he "fully accepted his actions were careless." J Hus' lawyer claimed the defendant was suffering from "mild PTSD" after being stabbed himself and said he was currently seeing a therapist.

Believing that she would be failing in her duty if she did not jail him, Judge Sandy Canavan passed down a sentence of eight months. The Judge added that this was the fourth time the rapper had been found carrying a knife in public and although he was a "role model to many", he has "failed" to leave his past behind him.

Between 2011 and 2016, the court has heard six previous convictions for 10 offenses from J Hus - including possession of a knife.
